The Dior show is one of the main events of the season in the fashion industry. On Monday, April 29, Dior organized the show of its collection Cruise 2020 in Marrakech. On this occasion, the French luxury brand has put the spotlight on Moroccan crafts on its social networks.
This collection, named "Common Ground", promises "multicultural" influences, the brand reports. Dior claims to have collaborated with local artisans for this collection.
In one of the videos published on instagram, Dior's artistic director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, reads a quote from Tahar Ben Jelloun, from his book “Le racisme expliqué à ma fille” (Racism explained to my daughter): "Culture teaches us to live together, teaches us that we're not alone in the world, that other people have different traditions and ways of living that are just as valid as our own,"
Before unveiling the Cruise 2020 collection, Dior has reserved a multitude of surprises to the guests. After welcoming them on a private plane totally branded to its name, the house has transformed the spectacular Bahia Palace for a dinner combining Arabic influences and couture.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, Artistic Director, invited her guests to this magical place of moroccan cultural heritage, before the show. Upon arriving, the guests were able to discover a unique exhibition gathering archive pieces created by Yves Saint Laurent when he was at the head of creation at Dior in the mid-1950s.
As night fell over the city's sixteenth century El Badi Palace and its gardens, models - some wearing handkerchiefs - walked around the yard's magnificent pool full of floating candles and in the center, a giant bonfires cutting through the Moroccan night.
